Ever wondered what goes on at the HASSRA festivals each year?
Perhaps you’ve thought about going yourself but want to find out a little more about it first?
HASSRA Festivals occur twice a year in July and September. Competitors travel from all of the 12 HASSRA Regions to compete in a number of events. These events are held at the University of Warwick, just outside of Coventry and the majority of events happen on campus. Whilst at Warwick Uni, competitors can also enjoy the modern facilities; the campus has a gym, shop, bars and restaurant.
Typically, competitors travel on the Friday and stay in the University accommodation until the Sunday and most of the events run during the day on the Saturday. The Saturday night is our big Presentation dinner in which all competitors, volunteers and officials are invited to a 3 course meal, winners presentation and then it’s time to hit the dance floor for the late night disco!
The events you can take part in include:
If you are a HASSRA member this is free of charge – yes, the whole weekend including transport, accommodation, all meals and the presentation dinner are included!
Still not sure if it’s for you? Below is some feedback from previous competitors and volunteers- photos are from this year's festivals, which included activities around the world cup!
Firstly thanks for organising a fantastic weekend.I know how much hard work you and the team put in to organising this event. This is my first ever time attending an event for HASSRA and I must say I am very impressed and proud to have been part of it and look forward to attending and representing the North East again at future events. Everything from the coaches, food accommodation and venue was brilliant.
The coach driver was on time, friendly and the coach was comfortable, clean and had air con to keep us cool in the warm weather
Accommodation and venue was brilliant with friendly staff who were always available to help with a speedy check in process. The bar on night time was well staffed and I was really impressed when we were told the bar/balcony had been reserved for us- whoever arranged this did a fantastic job as this put people at ease about where they could watch the game and would they have a seat, meaning they could focus on their event without worrying.
From me as a first time attendee thank you to all involved in organising this memorable fantastic event and atmosphere and I look forward to attending again and will be promoting the hard work that HASSRA does along with promoting the success of this event amongst colleagues - I am proud to be part of something so great. – Rob Kelly
Another superb weekend and a very big thanks to everyone from HASSRA who helped facilitate the event.
Regarding my sporting participation at the Event I was a comparative newcomer to Crown Green Bowls & I hadn’t played for decades. I made some new found friends and suffice to say I had a great time Saturday night as well as the Friday evening.
What I really like about attending the event(s) are that since July 2017 I have now attended three & at each one I have met friends & former colleagues from the distant past, I hadn’t seen one colleague for over 40 years until last July’s event, as well as meeting new acquaintances.
My only regret is that I didn’t attempt to bid for the HASSRA Festival Events years ago when some of my former colleagues were urging me to do so.
Roll on next years events and hopefully I will get the opportunity to attend again. – Mike Thoburn
