Preston Office Centre - Activity Week
The Carer’s Allowance Unit in conjunction with Attendance Allowance and Working Age Division (formerly Barry House) staff marked Physical Activity Week with two smoothie bikes!
The two smoothie bikes were delivered to 10th Floor Palatine and were based in room 1005 for the week. Helen and Jennie spent their mornings chopping fruit and veg and getting everything ready for the first arrivals.
Participants in the event could choose either a fruit or veg based smoothie or as some people did, a mixture of both!
People found the bikes a lot easier to pedal than they thought and the bikes were great.
During our event, we got through 6 x 400g punnets of strawberries, 4 x 600g punnets of strawberries, 1 lime, 4 bunches of bananas, 2 pineapples, 4 tins of peaches, 8 pints of milk, 3 x 500g natural yogurts, 6 1 litre cartons of assorted fruit juice flavours, 2 bunches of celery, 4 bags of spinach, 1 cucumber and 5 apples!
As a bit of fun, we also had a hoola hoop challenge in which a stopwatch was used to time how long people could keep the hoopla hoop spinning. There was also a golf putting challenge, in which 10 goes were allowed to see how many holes in one you could get, and also a basketball challenge, in which 10 goes were allowed to see how many baskets you could get.
At the end of each day prizes were awarded to the lucky winners of each challenge. We also raised £50.00 towards our defibrillator.
